The visit and tour of the International Rice Research Institute sparked several questions regarding rice production and climate change. Prior to visiting IRRI, I was unaware of the methane that is produced through rice cultivation. Researchers shared several areas of focus regarding disease resistance, weather tolerant plants, the development of more nutritious rice, and methods of cultivation to reduce methane. The lessons that I will develop will focus upon climate change, rice, livestock and waste contribution to greenhouse gases. How will food and climate issues be resolved to maintain an expected growing population of 9 billion people by 2050?
